Discussion of future oriented grid restoration concepts in frame of NETZ:KRAFT* / Demonstration training at GridLab’s Dispatcher Training Center

As part of the research project NETZ:KRAFT, on 13th/14th September 2017 the framework conditions for future grid restoration concepts were discussed. Apart from GridLab also 50Hertz, MITNETZ STROM, Fraunhofer IWES, Energiequelle GmbH, PSI AG, University of Kassel and University of Erlangen-Nuernberg participated. During the first day the 16 participants were able to experience a classical grid restoration training between 50Hertz as transmission system operator for the Eastern part of Germany and Hamburg and MITNETZ STROM as one of the distribution system operators of the 50Hertz control area. Thanks to the SCADA based dispatcher training system of GridLab the grid restoration training provided a very realistic atmosphere to all participants. Under the impression of the first day, during the second day the research and development results as achieved since 2015 were discussed with special attention to the required control and protection mechanisms and to the forecast of the dynamic load behavior and wind conditions. In next step another grid restoration demonstration training will be realized at GridLab, which will consider the same grid restoration scenario but supported by windfarms connected to the transmission and distribution grid.

* Under the coordination of Fraunhofer IWES the joint research project NETZ:KRAFT analyses the grid restoration under consideration of future generation structures. NETZ:KRAFT is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics in frame of the research initiative “STROMNETZE” of the German government (funding code: 0325776).
